PENGARUH LATAR BELAKANG PENDIDIKAN ORANG TUA TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR BAHASA INGGRIS DI KELAS X SMK SWASTA TANGERANG SELATAN

Abstract—The purpose of this research is to know the influence of parents' educational background on the English language skills of vocational students in South Tangerang. The research method used is survey method. Samples of 72 students were randomly selected with a simple random technique. Data collection was done by documentation technique and questionnaire distribution. Data analysis using descriptive analysis and multiple regression analysis. Statistical test using t test and F test. The results showed: (1) there is a significant influence between the parent's student education background simultaneously from English Class X. This is evidenced by the value Fo = 28,204 and Sig. 0,000 <0.05. Contributions provided with parents' parent background variables contribute 45% to the English proficiency variable. (2) There is a significant influence on the ability of the students of the class X grade in SMK in South Tangerang. This is evidenced by the value of t arithmetic = 2.48 and Sig. 0.016 <0.05. Variable of parental education background in improving English ability equal to 13,056%. (3) There is a significant influence on English proficiency. Student class X SMK in South Tangerang. This is evidenced by the value of t arithmetic = 4.881 and Sig. 0,000 <0.05. Keywords: parents’educationalbackground, English. Knowledge. Abstrak—Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh latar belakang pendidikan orang tua terhadap kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa SMK di Tangerang Selatan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei. Sampel dari 72 siswa dipilih secara acak dengan teknik acak sederhana. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi dan penyebaran kuesioner. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis regresi berganda. Uji statistik menggunakan uji t dan uji F. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara latar belakang pendidikan orang tua siswa secara simultan dari Bahasa Inggris Kelas X. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai Fo = 28,204 dan Sig. 0,000 <0,05. Kontribusi yang diberikan bersama variabel latar belakang pendidikan orang tua siswa memberikan kontribusi 45% terhadap variabel kemampuan mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. (2) Ada pengaruh signifikan orang tua terhadap kemampuan siswa kelas bahasa Inggris kelas X SMK Swasta di Tangerang Selatan. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai t hitung = 2,48 dan Sig. 0,016 <0,05. Variabel latar belakang pendidikan orang tua dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris sebesar 13,056%. (3) Ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Siswa kelas X SMK Swasta di Tangerang Selatan. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai t hitung = 4,881 dan Sig. 0,000 <0,05.Kata Kunci: Latar belakang pendidikan orang tua, Mata Pelajaran bahasa inggris. Pengetahuan.

Loyalty Of The Main Character In The Choice Movie Directed By Ross Katz

Abstract- The purpose of this analysis is to identify loyalty of the main character in The Choice movies. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data are the scenes and the dialogs of the main character that contains loyalty. The results of this research indicates that;(1) The loyalty appears in the main character, (2) The loyalty types of the main character are romantic loyalist and loyal sentinel, (3) the moral message contained in the movie are keep loyal and strong, never give up, and always together that this movie explains clearly that to be a true man is one of the condition that must be possessed is loyalty. PENERAPAN TPS DAN PP UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI MENULIS TEKS NARASI

The aim of this Classroom Action Research is to increase students’learning motivation and students’ narative text writingskill, by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Picture. This research is conducted at class VIII-8SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas of Bogor regency in Academic Year 2014-2015. The research is done by two cycles, each cycles consists of two actions. The deficiencies of the first cycle is reflected and improved in the second cycle. The goals’ criteria are achieved in the second cycle, it means that the classroom management by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Picture has been succeeded, so the reasearch is stopped. Based on the result of the research, students’ enthusiasm in the first cycle, 92,36% increases to 96,005% in the second cycle, students' learning motivation,78% in the first cycle increases to 83.8% in the second cycle. Students’ narrative text writing skills in the first cycle,72% increases to 81% in the second cycle. So it can be concluded that the result of the research showsthe classroom management by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Pictureis proved increasingenthusiasm, learning motivation and narrative text writing skill of the eighth grade of students’SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas of Bogor regency. Pembelajaran Keterampilan Berbicara di Kelas IV Sekolah Dasar

Abstrak - Tujuan umum penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas IV sekolah dasar. Adapun tujuan khusus penelitian ini diperinci dalam tiga hal yakni: (1) mendeskripsikan keterampilan berbicara siswa, (2) mendeskripsikan hambatan dalam keterampilan berbicara, dan (3) solusi guru. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini berupa tes kinerja (performance assessment) dan wawancara. Sumber data diambil dari siswa dan guru kelas IV B di SDN Keboansikep 01 Gedangan Sidoarjo. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini berupa tabel distribusi frekuensi dan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas IV B di SDN Keboansikep 01 Gedangan Sidoarjo masih tergolong rendah. Berdasarkan hasil tes menunjukkan bahwa 76% siswa tidak memenuhi batas KKM (skor 75). Adapun hambatan siswa dalam keterampilan berbicara yakni, (1) sulitnya siswa dalam mengeluarkan ide, (2) sulitnya siswa dalam memilih kata, dan (3) kurangnya percaya diri siswa. Solusi yang diberikan guru dalam mengatasi hambatan yang dialami siswa meliputi (1) memberikan motivasi kepada siswa, (2) membuat pembelajaran kreatif dan inovatif, dan (3) memberikan reward kepada siswa.

Pengaruh Penguasaan Kosakata Dan Tata Bahasa Terhadap Menulis Bahasa Inggris

This study is a survey research. The aims are to find and analyze empirically the effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery toward students’s English writing skill. The population are students of Pamulang University, Tangerang, with the result that 60 respondents used as sample in this research. The research sample were obtained from simple random sampling method, that is the researcher mixing the subjects in the population so that all subjects are considered equal. The research design used by correlation techniques with three variables consisting of two independent variables, that is vocabulary and grammar mastery, and one dependent variable, that is English writing skill. Data collection was done by using a questionnaire and then taking the score. The collected data then analyzed by using correlation and multiple linear regression technic. Before the data is analyzed, firstly test the data requirements (normality and linearity tests), and descriptive statistical analysis. The research result showed that: 1). Found the significant influence of vocabulary and grammar mastery concurrently toward students’s English writing skill, where Fhitung= 163,056 > Ftable = 3, 16 and Sig = 0,000 < 0,05. 2). Found the significant influence of vocabulary mastery toward students’s English writing skill, where thitung = 5,334 > ttable = 2,00 and Sig = 0, 000, and 3). Found the significant influence of grammar mastery toward students’s writing skill, where thitung = 4,889 and Sig = 0,000. It means that students’s writing skill were affected by vocabulary and grammar mastery.

Permainan Dart Board adalah permainan yang menggunakan alat bernama ‘anak panah.’ Anak panah itu akan diarahkan ke sasaran yang berupa papan sasaran. Kalau dalam permainan internasional, ada aturan khusus dan hitungan tertentu untuk menilai keberhasilan dari para pemain, namun kali ini permainan Dart Board ini ditujukan untuk melatih fokus seseorang. di mana pada permainan‘Dart Board’ ini, kita mencoba mengumpulkan fokus kita pada satu sasaran yang berupa papan bundar. Latihan fokus ini diperlukan di segala bidang, tapi kali ini penulis akan membahas latihan fokus berdasarkan bidang bahasa, khususnya pada kemampuan mendengarkan (Listening Comprehension Skill) pada waktu mengerjakan soal TOEP (Test of English Prociency).

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT AND STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT AT THE SECOND GRADE OF SMPN 30 BEKASI

In this research there are two variables: the independent variable is students vocabulary achievement and the dependent variable is students reading comprehension achievement. The purpose of this research are to find out whether there is correlation or not between students vocabulary achievement and students reading comprehension achievement at the second grade students of SMPN 30 Bekasi. The research method is ex post facto. The research is conducted all the second grade students of SMPN 30 Bekasi. The population of research is the total numbers of students are 272 students there are 6 classes in the second grade. The students are given post test. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. The result of data analysis through correlation Pearson Product Moment which has been modification, = 23,806 if compared by . Value criticize of chi square for the df (degree of freedom) equal to 1, level significant 0,05, = 3,841. It means that >. So, from the hypothesis we can see that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Based on the result from the interpretation the research concludes that there is significant The Correlation between students Vocabulary Achievement and Students Reading Comprehension Achievement at the Second Grade at SMPN 30 Bekasi. English Deixis in Picture Storybooks for Children

Deictic expression is a noticeable item in linguistic studies to recognize the meaning of a specific context. Thus, pragmatic analysis in this research is to find five kinds of deixis those are: personal deixis (first, second, and third person deixis), place deixis, time deixis, social deixis and discourse deixis. The theory that is used in this research is the theory of deixis by Levinson (1983). The present study investigates the use of Deictic expression in five children picture storybook. The titles of each book are Reba wants ice cream, Gappu can't dance, Bunty and Bubbly, A new pet in the family, and under my bed. In this research, the researcher conducted a descriptive qualitative research. From two research problem of this study What types of deixis found in the children's story books? And what are the patterns of the Deixis types in children's storybooks? the researchers found that in all story books, personal deixis is the most identifiable type of deixis. Some pattern of the Deixis types in Children's storybooks like the word; I, now, there, this, mother was found in the sentences of the story. Key words: deixis, picture storybook, pragmatics

TERJEMAHAN ASPEK BUDAYA DALAM SUBTITLE FILM DATE NIGHT

Abstrak – The purpose of this study was to obtain a comprehensive picture of the cultural aspects in the movie Date Night subtitle translation. Translation is traced in terms of culture and translation. This study is a qualitative study using content analysis techniques. Object of this research is the translation subtitles on the movie Date Night, Shawn Levy's film which is in English and translated into Indonesian in the form of subtitling. The film highlights the social and cultural life in America, ranging from divorce, crime to political themes; it would not be surprised if this film had won several awards in 2010 and 2011. There are five aspects of the approach used in the research culture, including the ecological aspects, aspects of material culture, social cultural aspects, organizational aspects, customs, activities, concepts, beliefs and aspects of the habits and body language. Subtitle translation that has mixed with the cultural aspects of translation approaches and methods of translation strategies. The findings of this study as follows, aspects of culture found in the subtitle translation tends to refer to the translation of communicative strategies and make the target language as a direction for conveying information to readers. The key is the translator skills to establish an effective and concise language of the subtitle display. Key words: cultural aspects, subtitle translation, translation, film

The Social Aspect of Culture Novels Pulang for Literary Studies

This study aims to find out the socio-cultural setting of the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is library research so that it is not bound by the place. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method with analytical techniques. The object of the research used is the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is focused on socio-cultural background research that includes language systems, socio-cultural systems, living livelihood systems, religious systems. The technique of collecting data is done by the way researchers read, understand, determine each intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the novel. The results of this study can be concluded that there are 81 statements are stating a socio-cultural background divided into 10 language systems, 50 socio-cultural systems, 17 living livelihood systems, 4 religious systems. Study the socio-cultural system dominates, this has been proven by the number of statements that refer to the system. The socio-cultural system in this novel refers to the attitudes and behavior of each group of people whose life is governed by customs and rules regarding various kinds of unity in an environment where they live and interact day by day. The relevance between the novel Pulang and the present life is the low interest in learning, so it is hoped that this novel can be used as a material for studying literature in high school because the contents of the novel that show learning are very important for the future.

ANALISA KESALAHAN TATA BAHASA INDONESIA DALAM DEBAT CALON PRESIDEN RI 2014-2019

Penggunaan tata bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar dalam kehidupan sehari-hari sangat penting. Hal ini dikarenakan tata bahasa menentukan persepsi pendengar atau lawan bicara. Dengan kata lain, pemerimaan lawan akan ujaran pembicara bergantung pada tata bahasa. Sayangnya, dewasa inisering kali kita jumpai kesalahan tata bahasa sehingga pesan yang disampaikan menjadi bias dan tidak tersampaikan dengan baik. Kesalahan tersebut meliputi, tidak menggunakan kata yang sesuai dengan EYD (ejaan yang disempurnakan), pemborosan kata, pengulangan kata secara berlebihan, serta pemilihan kata yang salah. Kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut penulis temukan di dalam “DebatCalon Presiden Republik Indonesia 2014” pada selasa, 10 Juni 2014 pukul 20.00 WIB. Didalam acara tersebut terdapat penggunaan tata bahasa Indonesia yang salah oleh kedua pasangan presiden dan moderator. Kesalahan itu meliputi penggunaan kata yang tidak sesuai dengan EYD, pemborosan kata, pengulangan kata secara berlebihan, serta struktur kalimat yang tidak tepat. Selain itu faktor-faktor penyebab kesalahan tata bahasa juga akan dibahas dalam tulisan ini.

Postcolonial Travel Writing: Ambivalence of Colonial Discourse in O.A Bushnell’s the Return of Lono

This paper analyzes O.A Bushnell’s the Return of Lono from postcolonial perspective, focusing on the ambivalence of colonial discourse and the resulting contradiction which ultimately undermine Western claim of superiority. This novel dramatizes the arrival of Captain Cook’s expedition on the Hawai’ian isles from the first-person perspective of Jonathan Forrest as he reminiscences of their prior expedition. The Westerners’ view of an idealized and imagined Hawai’i constructs Hawai’i as a space which is exotic and primitive while simultaneously promotes the idea of beauty and welcoming. While previously abiding on the Western paradigm which denigrates the natives as animalistic and savage Others, Forrest’s perspective unsettles this dominant thought and contextualizes the resulting ambivalence within colonial discourse. This paper employs the concept of contact zone as stated by Pratt and also the theory of colonial discourse and ambivalence as is proposed by Ashcroft et al. The finding concurs that every exertion of colonial thought will result in resistance as by nature, the colonial discourse itself is intertwined with ambivalence.

AMBIGUITY IN SOUNDTRACK SONGS LYRIC OF MOANA MOVIE

The objective of this study is to identify the ambiguity in soundtrack song lyrics of Moana Movie. This study used descriptive method to analyze data. The research data collected from “We Know The Way” lyrics and ‘I’m Moana” by soundtrack songs lyric of Moana movie. The result of this study is indicated that : (1) There are 26 ambiguity, 8 structural ambiguity and 18 lexical ambiguity in “We Know the Way” lyric and in “I’m Moana” lyrics there are 45 ambiguity, consist of 10 structural ambiguity and 35 lexical ambiguity. (2) The meaning of soundtrack songs lyric in Moana movie, “We Know The Way” telling the story of polynesian tribe which they are a fisherman, also, “I’m Moana” has meaning to describe who is Moana and her spirit when she almost give up to save her island and her people. The ambiguities in soundtrack song lyric’s Moana movie make the audiences more interest to this movie; make more variation style in language. It has good combination with the audio.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the Hallucinations issue in the Graphic Novel Caroline. The condition when someone who experiences sees, hears, feels, smells and tastes things that are not real is Hallucinations. Many things can cause hallucinations. One of them is a very strong desire to get something. The graphic novel Coraline has abundant evidence of the hallucinations experienced by the main character. Freud (1953) felt that hallucinations were very much like dreams and that both conditions represented a psychotic state in which there is no sense of time at all. Coraline always enters a parallel world when she sleeps and sees her parents in different forms and traits. The analysis is used psychological approach especially Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic theory. The psychological approach can be used to analyze the characters in a work. The main character and her hallucinations are important for analysis. The focus of this study is to find confirmation of Id, Ego, and Super Ego from Coraline's hallucinations. The method used is qualitative in analyzing graphic novels

Internet connection has become inseparable part in modern life because it can help people do their activities easier in many areas of work, including in education. Thus, many education practitioners and institutions create online learning to support their learning-teaching process. Online learning is also considered more practical to hold learning teaching activities because it does not need a classroom to run the activities. So, lecture and students can create a class from different place. However, online learning faces some problems in its application; student’s interaction and learning environment. Therefore, this study is intended to explore those problems based on students’ perception. Survey research with Likert scale technique was used to get the data by giving 100 students questioners. But, only 54 students returned the questioners. Based on the questioners that have been analyzed, researchers found that students face some problems to interact, not only with other students but also with lecturer. It is shown by high percentage of students’ disagreement to statements that declare students’ interaction in online class already support them in learning process. Likewise learning environment, students feel that learning environment in online learning less support them in learning teaching process. Thus, to help students develop their interaction and learning environment, lecturers can facilitate them by creating a group in social media to interact and boost learning environment atmosphere among class members. Derivation And Inflection Word Formation Used In Al Jazeera News

New word formation cannot be avoided in the making sentences, paragraphs, and also to speak, because words are part of the language which develops interaction between individuals in a society as human communication. The nature of communication are verbal communication (oral and writing) and non verbal communication (sign language and symbols). People often use media in verbal communication, such as written media or mass media (newspaper, magazines, billboards, tabloids and banners). This research analyzed about the structure of words contained in the article Al Jazeera News entitled “Syria’s Refuge Children: Future lost to the war” which uses derivation and inflection word formation process. This research aims to know how word formation occurs and identifies how many new words are formed by derivation and inflection processes. Descriptive qualitative method uses in this research. It begins by reading theories of word formation which related to journal and books, determine the article, furthermore classifies the words that contain derivation and inflection process. From the both word formation process that used (derivation and inflection) in analyzing the article, the result of the study found inflection is mostly used, because in the article required grammatical function that contained in inflection. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai pelanggaran maksim percakapan Graice yang terdapat didalam materi stand up comedy. Stand up comedy adalah satu genre comedy yang bertumpu dari kekuatan bahasa dalam menuturkan joke atau candaan . Penelitian ini adalah penelitian qualitative study yang menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik untuk mendeskripsikan apa saja pelanggaran pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh para comica. serta implikatur yang terdapat dalam setiap ujaran yang terdapat dalam materi stand up comedy. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat fenomena penggunaan bahasa dalam materi stand up comedy yang menunjukan bahwa pemakaian bahasa tidak lagi melulu soal alat berkomunikasi tetapi bahasa juga dijadikan sarana menghantarkan ide atau gagasan secara jenaka. Penelitian ini menghasilkan pembahasan data yang terklasifikasiakan kedalam jenis jenis pelanggaran menurut kaidah maksim percakapan Grice. Kata kunci : Pelanggaran Maksim, Pragmatic, Implikatur.

TEACHING RECOUNT TEXT THROUGH BRAINSTORMING (A Classroom Action Research at the 8th Grade Students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Husna Depok)

Abstract: Writing is one of skills in language teaching. There are some kinds of writing genres, one of them is Recount Text. Writing a recount text is helping in memorising about an events or experiences in a kind of sequences story by follow the generic structure of recount text, orientations, events, and reorientation. To make the content and purpose of writing recount texts is effectively fulfilled, the students are provided some guidelines and procedures. However, the way teacher provides the guidelines and procedures does not always get the success in teaching and learning writing. The writer used descriptive qualitative method because the data analysis is presented descriptively. This study aims to apply Brainstorming techniques in teaching Recount Text English in 8th grade students at MTs.Al-Husna Depok. The teaching process through; interviews, observation, literature study, and the internet. Moreover, in order to collect the result of the significant differences before and after of using Brainstorming Technique, the writer uses pre-test and post-test during the observation. The research findings include: 1)The students arranged the sentences into a good paragraph by answering the question who, what, when, where, why, and how. At last, for the second trying of using brainstorming, the students did the practice individually. 2)The advantages of teaching recount text through brainstorming are that the writer found that brainstroming could help the students feel at ease while they are writing. The students can manage their time for writing more efficiently. They could produce unpredictable words for their writing since brainstorming helps them generate ideas more effectively and release their anxiety that cause the writer’s block. 3) Using brainstorming technique is very effective in improving the students’ ability in writing recount text for the 8th grade students at MTs. Al-Husna Depok. By using brainstorming, the writer made the students enjoy writing. It because brainstorming is not a difficult technique to be applied.
